Play On
Event details
1 May — 3 May 2016
We are currently working with 40 young people in partnership with Arsenal In the Community for Play On, an exciting playwriting project inspired by the themes of Boy.
Led by Almeida Participation, the project will reach young people, involved in Arsenal in the Community’s programmes, who haven’t previously been involved in theatre, encouraging them to create and share their stories and experiences.
Boy playwright Leo Butler has been joined by Steven Camden (Polarbear), Charlotte Josephine and Somalia Seaton to work with the four groups of 10 young people to develop new plays and monologues which will be performed on the Almeida stage by professional actors before the performance of Boy on Monday 2 May and Tuesday 3 May.
The young people involved in this project will also get the chance to be part of the making of a short film. Some of the short plays will be captured as well as the young people’s thoughts on the world they live in, creating an engaging film which will represent the work by the young writers and be a legacy piece for the project.
Arsène Wenger, Arsenal Manager, said: “Football can be a little bit the same as the theatre, because it has the power to bring happiness to young people and make them dream of what is possible. We are proud to be involved in this special project, and to be a positive force in our local community too.”
Play On is supported by The Arsenal Foundation.
