Anthem Live

In March 2021, Almeida Participation put an open call out for emerging young Black writers to be a part of Anthem, an initiative to support and encourage aspiring writers inspired by Lolita Chakrabarti‘s play Hymn.

11 writers were then selected to be a part of a cohort of writers to receive more focused support. Over the last year, the writers have developed their work receiving mentoring, notes and feedback from dramaturg Ola Animashawun. The final phase has seen the 11 plays benefit from a research and development process led by directors – Abi Falase, Ewa Dina and Germma Orleans-Thompson, and the Anthem Young Company who have been specially recruited for this project.

As a celebration of their work, Anthem Live features extracts of their plays which will be performed in front of an audience for the first time.
