We’re delighted that Ava Pickett has been awarded this year’s Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for her play 1536, written under commission at the Almeida as part of our Genesis Almeida New Playwrights, Big Plays Programme.
Set in Tudor Essex, the play follows three women as they discuss the news of Anne Boleyn’s arrest. Pickett called it a “very funny and very angry play” about female friendship.
The Genesis Almeida New Playwrights, Big Plays Programme is made possible by the support of the Genesis Foundation. Find out more about the programme here.
